Glaze was approached to carry out the replacement of all front elevation windows at Weddell House in central London.
In early 2021, Glaze was approached to carry out the replacement of all front elevation windows at Weddell House in central London, standing opposite the famous St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Smithfield’s Meat Market. The existing windows were old steel Crittall and our brief was to replace the existing ones with like-for-like aesthetically but with a modern system that met with building regulations approval.
The location of this building was ideal for the creation of 54 apartments, and some loft living. The windows in the main were fairly large at 2800mm wide by 2200mm high. In addition, there were a number with curved heads which were all worked into the detailed design process.
For this project, our Aluminium Heritage system was selected and approved by the Heritage Officer, which allowed similarity to Crittall and could offer both casement and tilt and turn to accommodate the large apertures. All windows had to be internally beaded for ease of future maintenance.
The frames are dual colour; black externally and white internally. This installation took place during the challenging times of Covid restrictions. The building is now fully occupied in a popular part of London with the ease of movement around the capital.
